Weekend!

Jonathan came to visit me this weekend from Saturday until Sunday! It was fantastic, as always. He arrived late Saturday morning and we walked around Providence for a bit, got some lunch at Johhny Rocket's, then took a bus back to URI. Then we got pie and came back to my place. We drank tea, ate pie, watched movies, etc etc. It was awesome. I also love how we can argue for hours over stupid stuff, and have great, heated debates, and then "make up" so to speak like 2 minutes later :-P 'Tis good.

Other than that not much has been going on. OH. I know what I can discuss.

The first episode of the new season of ER that was on last week. Saddest. Thing. Ever. That was the saddest thing I've ever seen on film. I cried for like an hour. What really got to me was Abby and Luka's situation I think. I dunno why it made me so sad either. I think I just fear it happening to me some day. It was sad. I liked it, but I didn't like it. GRRR life is so sad sometimes.

I will be changing the colors to the journal too eventually, by Jonathan's recommendation. I just don't feel like doing it now haha. I gotta go work on some Latin.

THE NEW TORI AMOS SONGS ARE GENIUS. Tori, these songs have renewed my faith in you. I know you still had it in you to write genius songs. <3

The song Not David Bowie is one of the most genius songs I have heard in a long time.

Whoooooo

Well, I am all settled in now at URI, and I love it here. I started classes on September 6, and they are absolutely fanastic. 100000 times better than PC (don't get me wrong though, I did enjoy the time I spent at PC. It just wasn't for me). My English classes are the best, obviously. I enjoy reading. My evironmental geology class is interesting too. I enjoy nature, so learning about it when I can helps.

I also got a job at this coffeehouse called Bagelz. That's a really fun job. I get to make tea and coffee and chai and espresso and sandwiches, and I get free tea and coffee and chai and espresso and sandwiches while I am working! It's fantastic. It's also a great place to go to do hw and have some tea or food, so I will be doing that this afternoon because I have a crapload of work that needs to get done soon!

This weekend was a wonderful weekend. I went home on Friday because on Saturday Jonathan, his aunt and uncle (Kate and Kevin) and I hiked up Mt. Monadnock. When I got home Friday I relaxed at home for a while, then went over to Jonathan's where I spent the night. 'Twas fun. We watched Shrek. Then we woke up kinda sorta early (at 7) Saturday morning and had some eggs and toast and coffee, then we were on our way to the mountain! It was a perfect day for hiking. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. We also took a different trail from the one I took earlier this summer when I went up there with my father and cousin. We took the cascade link trail, which was sooooo gorgeous. That is a nice trail. It's longer than the two main trails, and goes around the side and into these cool areas that the main trail misses. And it's nice and remote, so we were the only ones on trail. And the nature around there is basically untouched because very few people use the trail on a regular basis. Ohhh it was orgasmic. I love nature and hiking :)

So now Jonathan and I said that our next adventure is Mt. Washington next year, and so it shall be!

I had another Mongolia dream last night. Grr.

Sun, Sep. 3rd, 2006, 08:02 pm

A lot has happened since I last updated.

I'll be transferring to URI, and I am EXTREMELY excited about that. I've selected my courses for 1st semester and I cannot believe how much more freedom I have compared to the "freedom" I had at PC. My courses for this year at URI will be LAT301: Intermediate Latin, ENG241: US Literature I; ENG251: British Literature I; ENG330: Structure of American England and Advanced Grammar; GEO100: Environmental Geology

So much better than PC. I am actually taking English courses since I am an ENGLISH major! Who woulda thunk!? AND I have declared Classics with a focus in Latin as my second major since I will have more time because at URI I can take 18 credits per semester instead of the shitty 12 credits at PC, which was really only 9 because I had to take the Development of Western Civilization, which wasn't really Western Civ but the Development of Christianity in Western Civilization, which didn't help me at all since I don't consider myself a Christian anymore. SO. That said, I am much happier at URI.

Also, the BEST part, is that I am living off campus in a HOUSE. It's a split level ranch and I will be there with 5 other students, and I get MY OWN ROOM. Which means I can have a boy over whenever I want and he can sleep over and I won't have to worry about the stupid fucking rules at PC that guys had to be out of the dorms by midnight. Yay! And I can get up in the morning and make tea and breakfast in the kitchen and then go out onto the porch and eat and drink tea and read and ah I am so excited. And there will be boys living there which is awesome because living with all girls SUCKS. Ugh. I hate girls sometimes.

(see pictures of the room here: http://community.webshots.com/user/meschwitz )

And I will be saving about $7000 from the room and board costs at URI, which kicks some major arse.

Also a couple weeks ago I went to my favorite spot in the world in Maine for a weekend vacation with the family. We stayed there from Thursday to Monday morning. It was so much fun. On Thursday we wanted to get up there early so we could have the whole day to do whatever, because it's about a 6 hour drive from here (it's up in the middle of nowhere). So my mom said that we would be living at 4 fucking 30 in the morning. Ok, whatever, that's fine. I figured I would just get up at 4:30 and hop in the car and go back to sleep, but of course my mother, being the OCD maniac that she is, got my sister and me up at 3:45 in the morning. We left before 4:30 and got up there so early that we couldn't check in for another 3 hours. Unbelievable and totally typical of this family. I still can't believe we got up at 3:45 in the morning. Omg.

So anyways the weekend was fun, and I pulled a total shithead move. I went hiking by myself in the creepy woods. It was a 3 mile hike which isn't too bad, but I thought I would be fine since it was in the state park that we were staying at, but once I got up to the top of the hill I fucking flipped because I heard two random trees fall down, and I panicked. I stoppped at the top of the hill and was like "hmm i am up here all by myself. There could be aliens in here. Or bears. Or angry Moose that will charge at me. And no one will hear me scream because this path looks as though it hasn't been used in about 10 years." So I freaked out and sprinted the entire way back. But the thing is, I thought the trail would be evenly divided: 1.5 miles to the top, 1.5 miles to the bottom (the trail was a loop). But it was more like 1 mile to the top and 2 miles to the bottom. So on my way DOWN it took twice as long to get back, so I started freaking out and panicking since I was already IN panic mode, and I was like "OMGOMGOMG this is gonna be like a Stephen King book. I am gonna keep running and I am never going to get out of the woods. The trail is going to go on for eternity and I am going to be doomed to eternal terror running through these creepy woods!" I finally got out alive though. And when I got back to the campsite I realized that I took my father's switchblade with me in case anything DID happen, and it was a good thing I had forgotten about it while I was hiking because if I had remembered that I was carrying it I probably would have whipped it out and opened it and ran down the hill with it at 100mph and fallen and accidentally stabbed myself.

So yea!

I now want to take a moment to discuss the Floyd Landis scandal. It is disappointing, yes, but there are a few things I have to say about it.

Floyd tested positive for high levels of testosterone, which is not uncommon in cycling. The normal level in a normal male is a 1:1 ratio to another type of horome. But the legal limit in cycling is 6:1, so obviously there are some double standards. Moreover, high testosterone, or using synthetic testosterone, is NOT "blood doping" as all news channels and websites are saying. Doping this, doping that, blood doping, blah blah blah. Blood doping is an entirely different process than using synthestic testosterone. Blood doping is increading the count of red blood cells in one's blood to increase oxygen flow throughout the body and to the muscles. This can be done now by using synethetic EPO. Not testosterone. High testosterone is not blood doping. It is an illegal advantage if it is synthetic, but it is a FAR less serious offense than blood doping. Blood doping makes an athlete into something he is not. It is a total fraud, and isn't just a booster, but a terrible way to "dop" one's body into being something it is not. Testosterone just boosts. {see: http://www.texarkanacollege.edu/~mstorey/beckham.html ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_doping )

So if Floyd actually did use synethetic testosterone as a booster, I think is sad and unfortunate, and it really, really disappoints me. Whether or not he did I cannot say. If he doesn't produce hard evidence of where the testosterone came from then I will have to conclude that he did use synthestic testosterone for a boost.

However, I do not condemn what he did, or what others like Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso have allegedly done (ie, real blood doping). I also do not support the actions that have been taken to "punish" these athletes. In and of itself, I do condemn blood doping. However, this entire sport of cycling needs the biggest kick in the ass. It has been said by many professional cyclists that just to get into the procycling tour, you need to blood dope, so the peer pressure is absolutely enormous. It also means that probably 90% of cyclists dope. Therefore to pick out individuals who win or "get caught" and then to punish them is asinine. The entire sport needs a two year suspension for all of the athletes to get clean. Then the sport needs to do mandatory and regular blood tests on ALL of the professional cyclists on a REGULAR BASIS. It might be more costly than usual, but if that is the way it has to be, then that is the way it has to be. Testing a guy who wins a stage of the tour and then banning him if he has high testosterone is ridiculous. It needs to be everyone or no one. The entire sport has become a fraud, and it needs a kick in the ass. I have been around the sport for as long as I can remember because of my father, and I love it, but it needs a huge kick in the ass, and mandatory, regular blood tests. To punish Floyd for something everyone is doing is stupid. Punish none or punish all. I support Floyd in his attempts to defend his title as Tour de France winner.

ANOTHER AMERICAN IS ABOUT TO WIN THE TOUR DE FRANCE. FUCK YES. YAY FLOYD LANDIS!

Thu, Jul. 13th, 2006, 11:28 am

I haven't updated in 3 weeks. Blah.

My 4th of July was awesome. I drank pretty much constantly for 5 days, and it was great. And I had good food and spent time with good people.

But in more important news: THE TOUR DE FRANCE! So after all the bannings for suspected blood doping, an American is in first. Such a great slap in the face to the French. They ban all the men who were supposed to win it this year. Most importantly, my man, my baby, Jan Ullrich from Germany. He is the man who won it in 1998 and who has always been coming in 2nd (last year 3rd) to Lance. This year was supposed to be his year, but the ban him for only suspected blood doping. If you look at him you know he isn't blood doping. It's just stupid. Ivan Basso (who came in 2nd last year) I think did blood dope, but not Jan. And even if they did dope, it hasn't been proven, and probably WON'T be proven, so to ban them, especially Jan who has proven himself to be one of the top cyclists in the history of the sport, is just stupid.

So what happens in this tour as a result? The French get the lead once, and today, the day before Bastille Day, an AMERICAN takes the lead away from the French. Ha. Mr Floyd Landis take the lead away and is now in the yellow leader's jersey. And this man is the man who is now supposed to win the whole tour. I love how all this drug shit backfired for the French. Oh, you haven't won the tour in a while? Boo fucking hoo. There is no better way to slap the French in the face for these bannings than to have an American in the lead on Bastille Day, and to have yet ANOTHER American win it this year. Let's cross our fingers that Floyd will win.

And also: this Tour just IS NOT the same without my Jan :( I miss him so :(

But:

YES. FLOYD IS IN FIRST!!!

Hiking trip in NH!

So I went hiking in NH on Friday with my father and cousin Randy. Here are some pictures with captions!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The trail as we first started going up.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
There were a ton of trees like this one that had fallen over on this path that we were on. It was very strange because the trees that got knocked over weren't rotted or anything. It looked like a tornado had gone through there.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
About halfway up.

The view from about halfway up

My padre and I halfway up the MT

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
As we were approaching the summit. That is another small hill that is on the other side of the mountain. We didn't go to that part though.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
A nice view as we were getting closer to the summit.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My father and I with the summit behind us.

Me being strange.

Another one of me being strange. That is still the summit behind me.

And again!

Again more view from the top.

Another view from the top.

A pretty zoomed in picture.

And then we started to head down.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
On the way down we saw this thing. That strip in the middle is a vein of quartz I think, and it went all the way down the side of the mountain.

See

Walking on down.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Big rock.

We found this tree at the bottom of the mountain. I thought it was cool so I jumped inside.

So that was the hiking trip! It was very, very fun. I love hiking.

Thu, Jun. 15th, 2006, 04:51 am

Yea so it's 4:51 am and I cannot sleep. I think it's the caffeine I had today. I didn't even mean to have that much caffeine. It just kind of happened. I had a cup of iced coffee at like 6, and then at around 8ish I had two cokes when I was having dinner with Rob. So yea. But usually my medication I take every night for my migraines puts me to sleep pretty well. Not tonight though apparantly, and it sucks. Let's just say that I am quite pissed. Yes. Quite.

Fri, Jun. 9th, 2006, 10:53 pm

I like beer. Mmm Heineken and Sam Adams (Boston Lager)

I hate that I am afraid of the dark. Nuff said.

Ok I will support some forms of feminism at times, but come on ladies. You are giving women a bad name!

http://community.livejournal.com/boob_nazis/?

I really don't want to see your lactating boobs in my face. Really. I don't think things like Janet Jackson's boob on tv are evil, but there is a line you have to draw, and ladies, you've just crossed that line.

Sat, May. 27th, 2006, 11:38 pm
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

hahahaha for anyone who is familiar with Ayn Rand's work:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0480239/

I can't fucking believe it. PITT AND JOLIE HAHAHA. Oh man if anyone has read the novel, please, talk to me about this because this is too fucking funny to be true.

Tue, May. 23rd, 2006, 07:26 pm

The woman that I do housework and yardwork for during the day is fucking crazy. Pardon my language, but she really is. Her house has crap piled up to the ceilings. Just random junk. Towels, cushions for chairs, wreaths, dolls, random decorations, table cloths, lamps, storage bins of the aforementioned crap, tables, chairs, plates, cups, shoes, clothes, books, candles, etc etc. The list goes on, but that is just a small sample. The woman is a pack-rat and never throws anything away. So now the situation has gotten so bad that she can't find things she has bought, so she goes out and buys more of the same thing (let's say cleaning supplies for example), so now she ends up with 8 of the same thing, unused and still in the package, but she just can't find it because it's buried under all the other crap in some random room in her house.

So I took her out to CVS yesterday because she's old, has MS and can't drive. Now, if I were in her situation with the stuff in her house, I easily could have gone in there and spent $25 max and be out of there within 15 minutes. But we spent an hour and a half in there and she spent $150. She bought everything that was on sale, even if she KNEW she had 8 of them back home that she could find and use. She bought a HUGE thing of paper towels for example because they were 25% off, and she said that they only mark down paper towels once a year, so she has to buy them even though she has three other huge boxes of them downstairs that she can find and use. She did that with everything that she bought. She bought two gallons of ice cream because it was buy one get one free, even though she has SIX gallons of ice cream in her freezer.

Now don't get me wrong---I love the woman. She's very kind and sweet and would do anything for you at any time. But she's just nuts.

She also thinks people are stealing things from her house left and right (when in reality she probably just can't find it under all that shit she has).

So I brought her to a store tonight so she could get a table for her hallway, and she saw a small cat made out of clay that was maybe a foot long and 6 inches high, and she freaked out and SWORE that it was the one missing from her living room. She was pointing at it and swearing on her mother's grave that it was THE one from her room. Now I have probably seen a 1000 of those in my lifetime in tons of different places . The woman is nuts.

Allyson is here right now bugging me as I write this.

So what else?

I am excited about reading this summer. I have a huge list of books and have already read two of them. I am so excited! Yay! I think the people that work at Barnes and Noble know me now, and probably think I am the biggest nerd cuz I finish books that I buy in like a day. I buy most of them rather than take them out from the library cuz I like to write in the books and underline and put post-its in the books too, just in case you were wondering why I spend money on books. It's the obsessive-compulsive English major part of me.

And in addition to that:

She really miscarried the baby? Why? Why did they end the season like that? :(

And showing her bloody hand slap the glass that Luka was behind, but he couldn't do anything about it because he was temporarily paralyzed and tied down. WHY? GGRRR

:(

Thu, May. 18th, 2006, 11:30 pm

Did Abby die? :( :( :(

It is becoming more and more depressing to live in this country

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/17/unmarried.ap/index.html

"BLACK JACK, Missouri (AP) -- The City Council has rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together, and the mayor said those who fall into that category could soon face eviction."

Eviction because you don't want to get married? Since when is it required by law to get married? Oh wait, it's not:

http://www.hud.gov/complaints/housediscrim.cfm

"Housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, family status, or disability is illegal by federal law."

It's good to know that if I want to live in this country peacefully and happily, I need to be a Christian. Fantastic!
