interesting things during the week:

1. i has new boots! i couldn't get the ones i really wanted though, cos they didn't stock it in junior size -.- so i had to settle for these red nikes. blah so ordinary. i really wanted pumas, like since i was a tiny little thing. i actually spotted a pair i really liked that was gorgeous to the brim but the salesman took one look at my feet and laughed.

2. nus dance synergy. this was actually rather awesome. i think leonard's raised the bar as president. the dancing was very physical, the lighting was awesome, the white jockeys worn by the guys were...interesting. hahaha leonard leonard. mariah, celine dion, tarja turunen (i walk alone), cerrone (supernature), men dancing in cages - the theme underlying certain sequences was clear enough, but that also made it unlike any dance concert i've been to. which is good thing, cos i enjoyed those dances more. and yes, the songs are stuck in my head!

3.maths assessment book =( bah. this is consuming my soul. i have like, homework and a life. at least i'll have a thousand bucks after this. i think.

4. never, ever go to eat at mad jack's. it's crap, seriously. my dinner was ruined yesterday. the beetroot juice tasted of soil, the spicy fries were not spicy, my dad's tea cup wasn't even filled to the brim, the apple pie was dry and the soup was salty. sigh.

5. i got another piece of assignment that is due on my birthday.

my asian american class is so boring it's not funny. i've given up trying to listen attentively. heeeeelp. =(

anyway. fasting enters its fourth day today. and so i enter the familiar sights and sounds of the world where people ask you to lunch with them a minute after you say you have to be home tonight to break fast.

that aside, fish fillet cooked in red chilli sauce with onions is awesome. so gloriously white.

1 day and a bit to midnight 7s. hope all goes well. hope my stamina doesn't give out on me. hope i run fast and tackle hard. i've been eating way too much meat this past two weeks. i spent the whole day reading 1 chapter from my military history text. and then i went for rugby. i think my rugby shorts are too small but i can't be sure. the waist is fine but i think the length is too short. like you can see my fish-white flabby thighs. to get it the right length i want i have to pull it down a little until the waistband is halfway down my butt. hmm. i ate some more eclairs and puffs today. i feel like drinking a coke. lately i've been feeling that hats and hairbands give me headaches. which is a bitch, because hats are my lifeblood now that my hair is like the overgrown foliage on top of fort canning hill.

so boring. i hate my blog.

this is what i ate today, in chronological order.

coke light
tuna sandwiches
dark chocolate muffin
peachy soda
a prune

such scantiness. i couldn't decide what to eat the whole day. hence, the motley crew of food. later i shall eat eclairs and whatever my father brings home from johore.

i'm about to go jump on my trampoline! been procrastinating ever since i came home from tutorials because of the awesome dreary weather.

today, incidentally, was my first few tutorials. stared a lot at my prof in military history, replied to questions in my head [Prof: What do technological determinists believe? A voice in Tetty's head: Technology drives history! Tutorial room: (silence) Prof: Technology drives history!], but spoke a little more in dictators.

yay that concludes tuts for this week. other mod tuts next week so all i need to look forward to this week is thurs' lectures and midnight 7s!!!! i am loving my new grey hoodie from mango. it's possibly been the reason i dragged my ass to school in this dreary awesomeness. totally arctic monkeys.

ok lemme go jump.

the first explanation could be that i've moved on.

the second explanation could be that they've changed.

but it still remains that i can no longer feel the connection, the feeling of kinship. hmmm i mean, was it ever even there in the first place?

fuck it, anyway, i'm in a happy place. ok maybe not dazzlingly happy but content.

IN OTHER NEWS, THE FILM RELEASE FOR HALF-BLOOD PRINCE HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO SUMMER NEXT FUCKING YEAR OMGOMGOMGOMG

*wilts*

it was so close! this nov! ARGH now i must sit for TWO MORE FUCKING EXAMS BEFORE I CAN SEE IT.

1. i nearly ran over my mum's foot today.
2. i nearly finished a whole large packet of Mac's fries. they were the closest to golden i have ever seen and hot and just the right crispiness and everything.
3. i sat on the beach for close to an hour listening to radiohead songs watching the ships on the darkening horizon. some interesting things i noted: kid a is an excellent soundtrack for solitude during sunset. also, ecp beach is getting from bad to worse. and don't get me started on the water.
4. i'm still hungry.
5. i said yes to a dance concert. which is a first. o_0
6. i saw six cats at ecp lurking in the vicinity of a huge tree with huge long roots. i think they live in the tree. at least two were kittens.
7. i ate mooncake again today.

4. i watched prisoner of azkaban yesterday.
5. we ate at a restaurant called johnny's.
6. our car is also a rental from a guy called johnny.
7. the hamster at learning habitat is being abused. seriously, what would you call a diet of only sunflower seeds?

Simon, Brian and Nate contributed a sum of money towards renting a flat. Simon contributed 5/12 of the money, while Brian and Nate contributed the remaining amount in the ratio 3 : 7. Simon contributed $350 more than Nate. Hence, for every dollar Simon contributed, how much money did Brian contribute?

19/20 of the people in a club are male. 3/4 of the men are dressed in pink, while the remaining quarter is dressed in purple. 1/9 of the men dressed in pink and all of the men dressed in purple are also wearing hats. If there are 148 men altogether wearing hats, find the total number of people in the club.

i think the numbers add up. keyword being think. but nyehh =) the only way i can get through all this UUURGHH writing countless word problems is to insert insidious meanings in as many as i can to infiltrate the minds of 11 and 12 year old kids. this way's WAY fun-ner.

The ratio of the number of stickers Albus has to the number of stickers Severus has is 4.5 : 8. If Albus buys twice the number of what he originally had, Albus and Severus would have 2 125 stickers altogether. How many more stickers did Severus have than Albus at first?

i miss my birkenstocks muchly =( i cannot stand having to wear closed shoes all the time now i feel so bloody overdressed cos the only shoe options i have now are the gladiators (which show too much of my huge-ass peeling toes) and my snake-skin wannabe flats (which are overdressed as hell). did i mention i had to throw my favourite red sneakers away because i stepped in vomit in them. vomit, if i may add, which was smeared on the floor in front of my lift. the fuck it was doing there. my mum's neckermans are supposed to be a temporary substitute while i gather enough firepower to get my new berkies but it comes a distant inferior second. first, it gives my feet blisters. second, its surface is hard and sharp and it actually gave my feet corns which is disgusting and painful.

i feel very detached from the world right now. haven't had much contact with anyone, other than random people from rugby, and the EU seminar i went for this morning. i just can't believe school starts in two weeks. is it bad that i feel this sense of dread looming? like omg i can't do this, no i can't, what was i thinking.

to summarise the last two weeks of my life (for my own benefit, not anyone else's, you understand)

usc camp: fun in dribs and drabs. was a crap ogl, but enjoyed it all the same.

dark knight: heath is so awesome i think the should just kill joker so the next guy won't have to suffer the misfortune of being compared to him. also, i hate batman's voice. like WTF. disappointed with christian bale this time around. and maggie gyllenhal, she's terrific but rachel dawes' character is just too irritating. two faced's transformation was quite cool to watch but i thought he died too anti-climactically.

i ALSO FELL SICK. and still am.

rugby: hahahahhahahaha it was my first game. damn blur and i was playing hooker, which is a front-row position, and i think you're supposed to be always in the thick of the tackles and rucks but i think for the most part i was running around like a headless chicken. and i remember a couple of mistimed tackles...:( hahaha but nevertheless, it was pretty exciting :)

hellboy II: wow. WOW. WWWWOOOWWW. i love guillermo del toro. like LOVE. awesome, i loved the troll market scene. which reminds me, i think del toro should TOTALLY do a remake of neverwhere. it would really work well now, with all the great technolgy and people they have.

briefing for history majors on next sem's modules:
i am rather pissed because quite a few modules i wanna take are clashing horribly so i have to grit my teeth and choose other stuff.
the more or less finalised module list:

1. upheaval in europe 1848-1918
2. film and history
3. europe of the dictators
4. singapore's military history
5. asian-american history

ok if you know me you must know that under no circumstances would i have chosen no. 5 (woman warrior AGHHH!) but since my first few choices were no-gos...i shall read a roll-call of the unfortunate...virtue and leadership, introduction to world history, art and history...

next semester shall be an all-history affair. ah i have decided to ditch ever doing lit in nus. i just want to make sure i do enough history modules to graduate. it's probably all my fault lah, for thinking i had all the time in the world, then pottering around taking dumb modules like introduction to economic analysis and chinese 1 *sniffs
especially looking forward to film and history, the class for which is from 6-10 pm on monday :& nevertheless, it sounds too yummy to let go. and half the time's probably for watching films anyway.

usc camp next week.

i'm still aching from thursday. my first ever contact rugby practice. i blame hui ting for everything. when i tried to move my arms backwards on friday morning, i screamed. it's better now, but i think being repeatedly slammed into has taken a slight toll on me. no kidding. the bitching aside, the game does have its merits. i actually had a pretty good time, despite the fact that i started to wheeze like 15 minutes into tackling drills. i seriously need to haul ass. 4 km on the treadie tomorrow morning! incidentally, why do people spell the short form of tomorrow tml instead of tmr?? why? and is there such a thing as drinking too much orange juice?
and what exactly is a wodwo? i wanted to renew my library books but some fucker has put a hold on one so i have to read sceptical essays on human rights like, before tuesday. shitfuckdamnscrew.
and before i forget, gavin owes me $9. i am involved in writing a math assessment book with the tuition centre i'm at, and i just concocted some word problems.

At a Japanese restaurant, both pink and blue plates of sushi cost $1.99 each, while red plates and green plates of sushi cost $6.99 each. Gavin ordered 3 pink plates, 1 red plate and 2 green plates. Joel ordered 5 pink plates, 8 blue plates, 4 red plates and 2 green plates. Both boys also ordered a glass of Japanese tea each that cost $2.50 a glass. How much more did Gavin spend than Joel, if Gavin also paid half of Joel’s share?

Stefanie buys 2 boxes of 12 doughnuts each. In each box, 1/2 are chocolate-flavoured, 1/6 are glazed and the rest have raspberry filling. Teck Heng ate 1/4 of the total number of chocolate ones and 1/2 of the total number of glazed ones. How much does he have to pay Stefanie if each chocolate-flavoured doughnut costs $1.20 and each glazed doughnut costs $1.10?

....and this is a word problem presented to students of Dame Slap's school in Enid Blyton's The Faraway Tree. Not word-for-word but you get the gist. It is my favourite of all time and should be a Maths S question: If the trains run at 50 miles per hour on Tuesdays and don't run at all on Sundays, put down what the train driver's mother is likely to have for her supper.
*Anybody putting down the incorrect answers will be very sorry indeed.

and if anyone's interested, my food intake today consisted of:

2 slices of white bread with djion mustard and cheese and 2 fish fingers.
a green tea latte
a mocha frappe
a chocolate chip and walnut cookie. a huge one.
another fish finger
an ear of corn
a bowl of beancurd with ginko nuts
loads of orange juice

oh dear.

Music:piazza, new york catcher - belle and sebastian

futile. it's really pathetic how much school governed my life. right now, a little over a month away from starting my second year (or, if i wanna be 'merican, sophomore year), my life is free and futile.
and right now, i have absolutely nothing of value to write, other than my eu-asean paper, which is not reeally something i wanna be doing right now. even if i should.
am rather sick of my layout at the moment, if you can call this a layout. feel a sudden urge to drop this and move house to livejournal or blogspot but INERTIA the dastardly enemy is keeping her long fingers on me.
yes, and so i just wasted my time typing this irrelevant insubstantial rubbish.

So inadequate i feel that i will resort to copying and pasting other people's stuff here. not the first time, either.

belle and sebastian - piazza, new york catcher

Elope with me Miss Private and we’ll sail around the world
I will be your Ferdinand and you my wayward girl
How many nights of talking in hotel rooms can you take?
How many nights of limping round on pagan holidays?
Oh elope with me in private and we’ll set something ablaze
A trail for the devil to erase

San Francisco’s calling us, the Giants and Mets will play
Piazza, New York catcher, are you straight or are you gay?
We hung about the stadium, we’ve got no place to stay
We hung about the tenderloin and tenderly you tell
About the saddest ending of a book you ever had to read
The statue’s crying too and well he may

I love you I’ve a drowning grip on your adoring face
I love you my responsibility has found a place
Beside you and strong warnings in the guise of gentle words
Come wave upon me from the wider family net absurd
“You’ll take care of her, I know it, you will do a better job”
Maybe, but not what she deserves

Elope with me Miss Private and we’ll drink ourselves awake
We’ll taste the coffee houses and award certificates
A privy seal to keep the feel of 1960 style
We’ll comment on the decor and we’ll help the passer by
And at dusk when work is over we’ll continue the debate
In a borrowed bedroom virginal and spare

The catcher hits for .318 and catches every day
The pitcher puts religion first and rests on holidays
He goes into cathedrals and lies prostrate on the floor
He knows the drink affects his speed he’s praying for
a doorway
Back into the life he wants and the confession of the bench
Life outside the diamond is a wrench

I wish that you were here with me to pass the dull weekend
I know it wouldn’t come to love, my heroine pretend
A lady stepping from the songs we love until this day
You’d settle for an epitaph like “Walk Away, Renee”
The sun upon the roof in winter will draw you out like
a flower
Meet you at the statue in an hour
Meet you at the statue in an hour

ciao bella (incidentally, these are not my words as well)

Music:brand new bass guitar - jamie t

went cycling in the morning at ecp. my morning was promptly ruined (somewhat) by this dude who gave me a lousy bicycle to ride and pretended to forget to hand me the free water. hrmph. first of all the bicycle was too low and small and pedalling was hell. this i found out only after actually riding the damn thing, which meant that the lousiness of the bicycle was not realised during the perfunctory "testing". and secondly it was a bitch to speed because the pedals were loose. so i trundled along like an idiot. i made do, lah. jamie t helped. then to geylang where i stared, fascinated at a fishmonger-guy gutting a fish.

anyway, my rodents have graduated to grasshoppers now. stu now refuses to eat anything other than mealworms or grasshoppers, which is intensely exasperating. SPOILED KID. he's forgotten all about his once-favourite peanuts, sunflower seeds and cornflakes. i told him about the horrors of the pet section at chatuchak but he ignored me.

ANYWAY i feel very unaccomplished at the moment. it's june and i'm not doing anything real. i mean, i DO have stuff to do, lots, in fact, for e.g. my paper for the eu-asean trip is due by the end of june but i'm doing it with someone else and i have no idea how to write a paper with another person. i mean, what, i do the intro and we take 3 paragraphs each? i've usually only ever done my own essay and i dawdle horribly but it's ok cos it's mine. we haven't even formulated it yet. INERTIA, my friends, is my dastardly enemy. speaking of words that start with ene-, i recently found out what an enema is.

muffins!
