I have nothing against these people, of course, because at times I am exactly the same as them. It's hard to change, and most people never want to do it. (Myself included.) But, lately, I've been kind of figuring out that I am really lucky to have what I do have. So, being that I really have no one to harp to about this sort of thing, I decided that I could type my heart out and see if anyone decides to read. Maybe they'll even post something similar on their online journals. That would be neat. It's good to think about this kind of stuff, I think. 1.) I'm thankful to be alive. Just thinking about this makes me happy. I mean, who decided that I was worthy enough to come into existence? Or, if that's not the case, what were the chances of me coming to be? And what if I never did come to be? I'd never be able to experience life or be happy or sad or anything like that. In fact, I'd be nothing, which would suck. (And since the chances of me coming into existence seem pretty slim, I consider myself lucky to even be here.) 2.) I'm thankful for my abilities. You know, if you think about it, there really are a lot of things that I can do. I can write, and I can draw, and I can read, and I can play video games. I can walk and I can talk and overall I am a pretty functional human being. Think about that sometime, I mean just really think about it. People use their legs to run all of the time, and they never realize how cool that is until they have that ability taken away from them. When put like that, everything that I do is just really amazing. 3.) I'm thankful for my friends and family who love and care for me. Sometimes I think about what it would be like if everyone that I care for went away. To just imagine losing all of those people in my life, well, it makes me feel really lost and sad. Everyone that I meet has a big impact on who I am and how I feel about myself, and without them... well, without them, I'd be lost. 4.) I'm thankful for my appearance. Now this one is a hard one to type, because I don't want to sound egotistical, because that's not how I mean it at all. But, it is the truth. I think that I look fairly decent, and that I have a nice body to go along with it. If you observe other people in the world, it quickly becomes apparent that decent looks are something that is sometimes hard to come by. I got lucky in this respect, and I really appreciate it. 5.) I'm thankful for my state of mind. Now this is something that is very particular to me. Many people enjoy taking risks, enjoy doing what I see as wrong, enjoy doing drugs, and other things of that sort. But I personally see that as a bad thing, and would never do it myself. But how did I come up with that view? When did I decide that drugs were bad, sex was only something that I wanted to do after I was married, that school and learning is important, and that I had standards that I was going to stick by? I don't know when I formed these ideas, and after looking at a lot of the other people in the world, I'm very glad that I somehow did. Just the fact that I have an internal "poker" that tells me when stuff is right and wrong... well, I really really am thankful for that. 6.) I'm thankful for my senses. I'd hate to be blind, you know? Or deaf, or unable to taste food, or anything of that sort. Somehow I was born with all of these senses intact, and as of this moment, they haven't started to crap out on me yet. I mean, sure I have to wear contacts, but I can still see! Seeing is an amazing thing! I'd hate to lose it. 7.) I'm thankful for being optimistic. Have you ever noticed how many pessimistic people there are out there? Especially when you get into my age group, the teenagers. A lot of them are always angry, always dissing their parents, always busy hating something. As of this moment, I have never felt that way at all, and I'm glad. I don't like feeling down in general, and so being that pessimistic all of the time... I dunno, it just seems tiring. 8.) I'm thankful for love and kindness that I receive. I really appreciate this as well. Whenever someone goes out of their way to compliment me, or say hi to me, or just be nice to me in general... well, I really like that a lot. It makes me feel good, and then I want to say something nice back. Sometimes I wish that everyone could just be nice to each other every once in a while. I mean, some arguing is good, but kindness is always something that just makes my day. I think that if everyone went out of their way to do or say one nice thing everyday, that would really rock. 9.) I'm thankful for technology and the era that I live in. Now, I know that this sounds a little dumb, but I wouldn't like to live in the past at all. If you go back even 50 years, there are so many things that weren't invented, so many views that are obsolete, and so many things that I would not be able to do. I know that in the future, people will say the same thing about the time that I live in right now, but as of this moment, I would never want to be anywhere else. Or, I should say, anytime else. 10.) Finally, I'm thankful for my inspiration and intelligence. I always take these two things for granted, and I know that I shouldn't. There are many people out there who aren't as smart as I am, to put it simply. Maybe it's because they never apply themselves, or because they just didn't get lucky when it came to brainpower. I don't know why, but I'm thankful for the intelligence that I do have, and the inspiration that drives it. All of my ideas are inspired by something else, you know? And without those little everyday things that spark ideas, I wouldn't be who I am today. It really is an awesome thing. Now, if you read through this whole post, I want to say thanks. It's long and involved, but this is really how I feel. And, so if you did read this far, I'd like to leave you with one final question that I hope you ask yourself. What are you thankful for? |

In a conversation you've heard someone say "yah sure, you betcha" and you didn't laugh. You could pinpoint exactly where each scene in the movie "Untamed Heart" was filmed. You hate the movie "Fargo" but realize you and your entire family have that same accent. You get mad at people who think Fargo is in Minnesota. You know what Mille Lacs is and how to spell it. You have fish boiled in lye for Christmas. You know what "uff-da" means and how to use it properly. You know the 2 sports-related reasons why we hate Dallas.
