Write a novel. For those of you I haven't rambled about it to already, this year I plan to participate in
National Novel Writing Month. For those of you who don't know what that is and are too lazy to click the link and
read, the goal of NaNoWriMo is for everyone who participates to write a novel of at least 50,000 words between the beginning of November 1st and the end of November 30th. Of course, I realize that 50,000 words in a month while I'm at college with classes and everything probably
isn't going to happen. Still, I plan to write as much of it as possible during that month, and set a more realistic long-term goal of writing that much (which is a couple hundred pages, a perfectly respectable novel length for a fairly novice writer IMHO) by the time November 1, 2006 rolls around.
I've already got a basic concept, the beginnings of a backstory for my setting, a name for my main character, and a couple ideas for a title. I'm going to keep coming up with ideas, typing up rambly notes and eventually a plot outline over the next few months, though as per the NaNoWriMo rules I won't start on the text of the novel itself until November comes.
If I like my results, I'll self-publish it through CafePress or some similar site. Then you all can buy it and read it, and I can make a small profit. Though I'll need to hunt down any friends I have who can actually draw worth crap and hopefully find someone willing to do cover art for me, because my artwork sucks big-time. ¬_¬ But that's a long way off anyway. I have to write the book first, or at the very least write a good physical description of my main character. =P
Hey, it's certainly not going to be The Great American Novel. That's an amazingly pretentious goal anyway. I'm perfectly happy with just A Novel That Doesn't Suck Too Badly. =P

Kawaii Shanchan: It's questions like, "What do you like to do?", lame stuff.
Kawaii Shanchan: It's not like I can't just translate the questions into English once I do bother to go hunt someone down, then translate the answers into Japanese. I'll probably go wander in a couple hours.

William: Indiana's a useless void. I think we should just move Notre Dame over a little into Illinois and then flood Indiana. It could be the sixth... seventh... whatever Great Lake.
Me: Seventh, Lake Champlain's one. And then, you know that mnemonic for the first five, HOMES? We could make it into HOMIES. XD; Though that still leaves out Champlain. And hey, Indianapolis would cease to exist then. Shame the Colts would probably just move to Portland or something.
William: Or they could just build a giant raft, and put the stadium on that. Then tailgaters could come in rowboats.
Me: But those would be more likely to catch fire from the grills and such.
William: Eh, it's not like football fans are generally the brightest people on earth.
Me: True. Hey, we could kill off some Colts fans in the process!

Awesome as usual, of course.

- I am not, contrary to whatever Glenn thinks I should be, drunk.
- Storytime with Amy lives on. "SSSSSH, I AM ON THE PHONE WITH..."
- Judged Duo, DI, and OO. WTF?
- In terms of ex-crushes, today was really fucking surreal. HI Mike, whom I had a crush on for all of like two weeks, was competing of course. And then from there I went to see the school musical, including two other crushes of unnaturally (for me) short duration, Charlie and Brendan.
... in other thoughts, what do you do when the only person who ever gave a damn about you doesn't anymore?

Vaguely interesting meme time!
There's been an accident, and my memory's been wiped. I have no recollection of who I am. Tell me about myself. What do you know about me? What kind of person am I? What are my likes and dislikes? How did we meet and how long have we known each other? Is there one thing in particular that stands out about me? Tell me who I am.
Anyway, as for lately...
I'm going to end up having to take physics I over the summer, it looks like, as PHYS 121 next fall will conflict with both of my possible organic chem I classes that same semester. Not sure where I'll end up taking it, though. Still waiting to hear back from my advisor to see if there's anything I can do to avoid having to do summer courses at all first.
If I take it here at Case, my scholarship applies, but my parents want me to get a summer job and that'll be six weeks I can't work back home, though I could get a campus job here.
If I take it at Pitt for transfer credit, I can't use my scholarship, but it's $800 less tuition plus I could theoretically commute so that's no room and board, though a lot of gas money. I could keep a summer job at home in that case, though, and just only be available until 4PM instaed of all day on the days I have class. Just as well, since I can't get campus employment at Pitt as only a summer student. (And I could also in theory get physics II taken care of in the same summer if I did Pitt, but Case is pickier with PHYS 122 credit than with PHYS 121, I can fit physics II in next fall here, I'll be in that class with people I know who are currently in PHYS 121, and that's less $$ needed to go to Pitt and 6 weeks less of 12 hours of physics a week) I mentioned all this briefly to Mom, but will need to talk it all over with my parents more in-depth at a later time.
And, um, ew. Summer physics here at Case is an hour and a half more per week, with no free days. No thanks.
Given taking physics I and only physics I over the summer, though, I've got a tentative schedule for next fall already laid out, though, which is cool.
BIOL 215 - Cells and Proteins - MWF 9:30-10:20, T 8:30-11:30 (Could also do the lab 1:15-4:15 or 6:00-9:00 on Tuesdays, but early morning leaves me with more productive hours the rest of the day which is nice, I had that this past fall with my 10:00-11:15 religion class. Time for laundry, and I could really use the time for doing physics lab reports. Everyone seems to hate those.)
JAPN 201 - Intermediate Japanese I - MWF 10:30-11:20, R 10:00-11:15 (Yay for something that's not science/math for a change of pace - though stats shouldn't be too bad compared to honors calculus. Though I do hear foreign language skill is linked to the science-y, math-y parts of the brain rather than to the more humanities parts. Guess that explains how I've always had a knack for 'em.)
CHEM 223 or 323 (probably 323) - Intro to Organic Chemistry I/Organic Chemistry I - MWF 11:30-12:20 (I <3 o. chem. Won't be nearly the same without Mr. Weinand teaching it, though. He was awesome.)
STAT 312 - Statistics for Engineering and Science - MW 12:30-1:45 (This is the only thing that really sucks, having no lunch break two days a week. But I need to get one of a few particular statistics courses one semester next year and calculus IV the other, the honors calc IV isn't offered in the falls and all the sections of the regular calc IV were at the same times as my other 4 academic courses, and all the other stats courses and sections of this one did the same or conflicted with marching band which I really want to take again. I <3 marching band. Guess I'll be doing Grab It for food Mondays and Wednesdays next fall.)
PHYS 122 - General Physics II: Electricity and Magnetism - MWF 2:00-2:50, R (every other week) 1:15-4:15 (I have physics, I hate physics, I REALLY HATE PHYSICS. I just hope there's lots of circuits in this course, because that's cool, but probably not because that's more along the lines of electrical engineering.)
APMU 383D - Spartan Marching Band - W 4:30-6:30 (I really loved doing band this past fall. And it's gym credit. I love band for gym class. I wish marching band could have been gym credit in high school.)
So, yeah, that's my (very tentative) Fall 2005 semester.
New Tori Amos album, The Beekeeper, came out today. And I finally got my Borders gift card, from being amazing at quiz bowl, yesterday too. I really wanted to go to Borders today to pick up the new CD on release date, but it was snowing too much for any of us to be willing to take the bus. Hopefully I'll be able to get out there over the weekend.
... wow, this entry was long.

Going to a quiz bowl toruney at University of Michigan this weekend. I have to miss the Steelers game, *tear*. Ah well. I should get in touch with Spencer and/or Aaron and be like, "Dude, I'm going to be on your campus on Saturday."
And I just knew an answer in quiz bowl practice from reading a Piers Anthony novel. XD;
