And night follows day
Oh, dear me. Received through the door, the latest communication from the local vicar. And on Easter Saturday too. As _random_ said, living in the neighbourhood that we do, this was going to happen as surely as night follows day. We are only surprised that it has taken as long as it has - the work has been finished for less than a month: Dear Friends
At 11.50pm on Sunday March 20 the beautiful new (and very expensive) copper lights were stolen. The wiring has been ruined.
We think that people may have been seen acting suspiciously, and a flat bed/pick up truck/van lurking nearby - to size up the "job" beforehand.
Did you see anything suspicious or the theft?
Please let me know. Now, as regular readers may have gathered, the local vicar is not my favourite correspondent. (Although I almost always find his missives wildly funny, when they are not infuriating.) He does everything in his power to make life difficult for the residents of our flats, whose access road runs through the middle of his his churchyard. And I really do think it is a shame, and rather disrespectful, that his fixtures and fittings have been nicked. However. Interspersed with the witness appeals and the demands for us to attend services are regular begging letters pointing out how Our Beautiful And Historic Church is going to close unless we stump up a lot of money, now and every month hereafter (direct debit forms attached). Which has led me before to wonder why he chose to spend precious funds on a project that, here in Chavsville, London, England, was so clearly destined for this outcome. I would say that I hope he was insured, but I doubt there is a company that would be fool enough to cover him...
