well I live in Cali and naturally I was looking for spooky things to do on Halloween, and I came across some ghost reports in Hollywood and found them to be amusing..

"Hollywood - Universal Studios - Lon Chaney Sr.'s ghost is often seen running in the catwalks above the stage, he is often wearing a phantom-like cape. He usually lets his presence be known by opening and closing doors, flickering lights off and on. One strange event that happens is the tinkling of a chandelier that was removed from the set years ago, one of the original props from the movie."

and what set do you think this is....none other then the phantom of the opera set..

kinda cool

hey! well halloween is comming up very quickly and I sat wondering for awhile what I should be this year..then I thought of phantom, I would love to wear a Christine-ish type dress from "think of me" or even the amita costume would be great but I don't know if it would be done in enough time, or if my sister could handle it, so I decided to look into Meg's costumes, they look much easier then Christines, and I love the Degas ballerina look, so does anybody have any advice they can offer me?! and what do you all think, would it be a good costume?! </p>

Well longtime no update. Anyway, for those of you who are unaware, Broadway's current Phantom, Hugh Panaro, will be leaving the production on Oct. 1st. He is leaving the show to be the title character in Elton John's new musical, Lestat, based on the popular Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles.
While some fans are upset at Hugh's leaving, he said himself that he "didn't become an actor to be safe." Everyone here wishes you the best of luck, Hugh!

Read more about this production and see the other cast members here.

As you all may know, on Jan. 9th Phantom will finally surpass CATS as the longest running musical on Broadway. The event is apparently going to be invite-only. The man behind the mask for this occasion, as well as Hugh's as of now part-time replacement, will be longtime Phantom Howard McGillian.

Hello everyone, I just joined two minutes ago. This looks like a fantastic community. When I was little, I used to listen to the title song of Phantom of the Opera repeatedly for hours on end. We have it on cassette tape, and I would listen to it and then rewind it, and then listen to it, and rewind it.... I was a strange little girl. It never seemed to occur to me to listen to the other songs, though. Anyway, with the release of the 2004 movie, my love was rekindled. My boyfriend and I can often be heard singing parts of it, especially "Music of the Night", "Point of No Return", and "Down Once More". I have not read Gaston Leroux's Le Fantôme de l'Opéra yet, although I will soon. I'd also like to read the original French version of it (I just finished taking French 3, and I'd like to retain at least some of what I learned). This community seems like a great place to learn more about the Phantom of the Opera, the films, the play, and the actual legend of Erik.

does anyone have the phantom of the opera (with michael crawford and sarah brightman) on their computer by any chance for realone player or windows media player (or anything for that matter as long as it will play)?

I was curious cause I saw clips from it on the 2 disc Phantom of the Opera DVD I bought a while ago, and I'm very interested in seeing all of it, or at least more clips of it.

Thanks!

Just wondering, who else thinks that they should've let No one Would Listen in the movie instead of Learn to Be Lonely? Dont get me wrong, I loved Learn to Be Lonely,as every other song in that movie lol, but I thought that No one Would Listen would have made it better. Am I alone on this? lol.

P.S. - The Cast and Crew sing along was one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. XD

Music: All I Ask - The Phantom
Hello everyone, I'm Anne. I thought since I joined this community, I should properly introduce myself. I'm 15, and I've been hooked on The Phantom of the Opera ever since I seen the 2004 version of it. (which by the way I went to see it 3 times in the theatre ^^) And after seeing it, it made me want to see and read other versions of the story. I have the 1925 version on DVD, and I've downloaded the 1945 version. Also, I have a bootleg of Paul Stanley of Kiss playing the Phantom in Webber's version on DVD (it was more of a comedy then anything, I've never laughed so hard in my life. Paul Stanley was the most HORRIBLE Phantom EVER.) I've finally got to read Gaston's novel. Best thing I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I literally started crying at the end. (Even though I knew the ending lol) I think the first thing that attracted me to PotO, was that when I went to see it, I was actually in a love triangle myself. Sadly, the outcome was about as lucky as poor Erik's ^^;;...But I never related to anything like that before. I felt Erik's pain, because I knew exactly what it was like to love a person to the extent that at first, you want to have them all to yourself, but then realize that its not you that they want. So then you try to hold on tighter, but in the end realize it was selfish, and let them go, dispite your utter heartache, and let them be with whom they want, because you love them so much that all you want is their happiness. Even if it denied you yours. Well, anyway, I'm done ranting about my undying love for this age old story. =)....Oh, and if any of you would like to add me to your friends list, please do, I need more friends! =D lol.

so i know that this is really lame, and makes me seem incredibly ... well... lame, but i thought that some of you might enjoy my creation. this is the result of bordome and excessive amounts of time, which, as you know, are never a good thing. ...unless of course they are.

Hello. I'm Paige, and.. new to this community, so I'm posting that obligatory "I'm New To This Community" post.

Is it just me, or is that disgustingly repetitive?

I've loved Phantom since I was tiny; my mother read me the novel, when I was only six--my mother was a little eccentric. I write Phantom FanFiction, and have even been known to roleplay it, on occasion.

...That's all I've got. I am nearly always up for talking, though, about Phantom or nearly anything else. Contact information is, as always, on my profile.

As for my first Phantom-related discussion:
I am especially fond of the opera Der Rosenkavalier, and noticed a lot of similarities between its beginning and Il Muto's. In it, the Marschallin has just spent the night with her latest lover, a seventeen year old count--note the age, not the societal status. He is not mute; however, there is more. He hides, when her servant comes in, and when she thinks she has heard her husband arrive--which, in an unsimilar way, he has not; it is her cousin--he disguises himself as a country girl in the Marschallin's service. Her cousin, Baron Ochs, is taken with the "girl", and even makes several passes at her, while in the company of the Marschallin. He even requests to take her with him.

Sound familiar? It should--recall that Piangi says, "But I will happily take the maid with me!"

This is the end of the similarities, but considering that Il Muto doesn't get much further than that...

Well. Thoughts?

Alright.. So I have an outside-reading project to do for English. And guess what novel I chose! (The Leroux one)

So I need to find examples of foreshadowing, symbolism, irony, etc. in the novel.

I basically got most of the foreshadowing (the notes, Mame Giry) and the symbolism (Red Death, Apollo's Lyre, The whole Phantom story paralleling that of Hephaestus)

Just wanted to know if any of you could think of anything else. This all has to be in reference to the novel. I could find so much symbolism in the musical too. -pout-

I have to make a poster and/or some other sort of "visual aid"... So what I was thinking was getting the hat, mask, and cape, and walking into the classroom with the Overture playing. Is that a bit too much or just clever?

Help is greatly appreciated seeing as how it is due Next Tuesday.

Lve!

Bonjour!

I'm Antoinette. Or Nettie.
I'm not Queen of France. My parents just have interesting taste in names.

Anyways!
I bloody adore Phantom. I've seen it live twice and have been infatuated since I saw the Leroux-based PBS miniseries at age seven or so.
I love Erik. And he loves me back.
Or he would.
I think.
I also love Raoul, because he is cute and foppish and aristocratic.

And what else? The new movie made me cry a lot. And if you have the chance, download the Italian cast recording. It's simply wonderful!
